Areas we cover across New York City
Mews Construction Contractors is based at 1292 Waring Ave in the Bronx and serves all five NYC boroughs — the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island — plus select projects in Westchester County. Most of our active work is in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, where we have built since 2016. We do not outsource to subcontractors we do not know personally. Every crew we send is someone we have worked with on real NYC projects under DOB permits.

Five boroughs · one local crew
Where does Mews Construction work?
If you are searching for a construction company near you in NYC, you have found a genuinely local one. We are a Bronx company first, and our project history proves it — most of our 100+ completed jobs are within a short drive of our Waring Ave office. That local footprint means faster site visits, earlier start times, and crews who already know your building type before they walk in.
We take residential and commercial work in every borough, but we are honest about where we have the deepest bench. The Bronx and Upper Manhattan are home turf. Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and southern Westchester are served selectively — we take work we can staff properly rather than overcommit.

01 · OUR HOME BOROUGH
The Bronx
The Bronx is where Mews Construction was founded, where most of our team lives, and where we have completed the majority of our 100+ projects. We know the Bronx better than any borough — its building types, its neighborhood quirks, its DOB district office on Arthur Ave, and how to work within its mix of pre-war, post-war, and mid-century housing stock.
Every Bronx neighborhood
- Riverdale — high-end residential, landmark-adjacent buildings, co-op board projects
- Fieldston — private roads, custom homes, large renovation scopes
- Kingsbridge — attached rowhouses, basement conversions, masonry
- Norwood — semi-detached homes, kitchen and bathroom remodels
- Woodlawn — attached homes, exterior masonry, full renovation
- Wakefield — single and two-family homes, additions, renovations
- Co-op City — high-rise in-unit renovations, flooring, drywall

- South Bronx — commercial, ground-up work, structural repairs
- Highbridge — attached homes, masonry, exterior restoration

Most common Bronx services
Kitchen remodeling, bathroom renovation, basement finishing, masonry and concrete, patios and driveways, foundation repair, drywall, painting, and full home renovation. For commercial clients: office fit-outs, retail spaces, and light restaurant work.
02 · RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL
Manhattan
Manhattan is our second most active borough. We work regularly in Upper Manhattan, which shares much of the same building stock as the Bronx — prewar co-ops, brownstones, and walk-up apartment buildings. We also take on commercial projects in Midtown and Lower Manhattan.
Neighborhoods we serve
- Inwood — single-family homes and apartment buildings
- Washington Heights — large apartment buildings, gut and partial remodels
- Hamilton Heights — brownstones, kitchen/bath, masonry restoration
- Harlem — brownstones, new builds, mixed-use renovations
- East Harlem (El Barrio) — residential and commercial walk-up renovation
- Morningside Heights — apartment buildings and townhome renovation
- Midtown — commercial office build-outs, retail, restaurant
- Lower Manhattan — commercial renovations, tenant improvements, offices
Landmarks & logistics
Manhattan projects often require extra coordination — Landmarks Preservation Commission review for historic buildings, stricter DOB noise and work-hour rules, and tighter site logistics. We have managed all of these. If your project needs LPC approval or falls under a zoning overlay, tell us upfront and we factor it into your proposal timeline.
03 · RENOVATION & COMMERCIAL
Brooklyn
We serve Brooklyn primarily for residential renovation and commercial construction. Brooklyn’s building stock runs from 19th-century brownstones in Park Slope to mid-century brick homes in Flatbush, and we are experienced with both. Brownstone renovation is a specialty — we work with original masonry, repair brick facades, restore salvageable millwork, and modernize interiors without stripping the building’s character.
Neighborhoods we serve
- Bushwick — older residential renovation, commercial and restaurant fit-outs
- Bed-Stuy — brownstone renovation, kitchen remodels, full-floor gut work
- Crown Heights — attached/semi-detached homes, kitchen and bath upgrades
- East Flatbush — two-family homes, full renovation, basement finishing
- Flatbush — residential renovation, flooring, drywall, painting
- Williamsburg — commercial, restaurant fit-outs, mixed-use renovation
- Canarsie — single-family homes, exterior work, driveway and masonry
- East New York — residential construction, gut renovations, GC work
- Brownsville — residential and light commercial renovation
04 · RENOVATION & NEW CONSTRUCTION
Queens
Queens has an exceptionally diverse mix of housing — detached homes in Jamaica and Springfield Gardens, attached rowhouses in Jackson Heights, and dense apartment buildings in Flushing. We serve clients throughout Queens for both renovation and new construction, and we handle coordination with the DOB Queens Borough Office, co-op boards, and HOAs on your behalf.
Neighborhoods we serve
- Astoria — mixed residential/commercial, restaurant, kitchen and bath
- Jackson Heights — attached homes and co-ops, interior renovation
- Long Island City — commercial, office build-outs, mixed-use renovation
- Flushing — residential renovation, commercial interior, restaurant
- Jamaica — single-family homes, full renovation, additions, basements
- Springfield Gardens — residential construction, two-family homes, GC work
- South Ozone Park — home renovation, bathroom and kitchen remodels
- Ridgewood — attached rowhouses, gut renovation, masonry repair
- Forest Hills — apartments and single-family, high-end kitchen and bath
- Bayside — single-family homes, additions and extensions, renovation
05 · RESIDENTIAL & LIGHT COMMERCIAL
Staten Island
We take on select projects in Staten Island, primarily residential renovation and light commercial work. Staten Island has a higher proportion of detached single-family homes than other boroughs, and renovation scopes typically involve full gut renovations, kitchen and bathroom upgrades, basement finishing, and exterior masonry.
Active project areas
- St. George
- Stapleton
- New Brighton

Why it matters
Why local knowledge matters in NYC construction
NYC construction is not like construction anywhere else. A contractor from outside the city can pull permits and show up on site, but if they do not know the DOB’s borough-specific workflows, the quirks of older building systems, or what a co-op board requires before approving work, they will cost you time and money. Here is what working only in NYC since 2016 has given us.
DOB permit knowledge
We know which project types trigger full plan review versus expedited filing, and we build that into your timeline before you sign anything.
Building type familiarity
Pre-war co-ops and brownstones behave differently than post-war brick. Framing, insulation, plumbing, and electrical vary by era. We diagnose before we demolish.
Landmark & LPC awareness
Grand Concourse, Hamilton Heights, parts of Harlem carry landmark designations that affect exterior alterations. We flag these before work begins.
Co-op & condo board experience
Many NYC projects need board approval first. We provide insurance certificates, license numbers, and scope letters in the exact format boards expect.
Work-hour compliance
NYC restricts construction noise hours (generally 7am–6pm weekdays). We plan schedules accordingly and never put clients in violation.
Asbestos & lead awareness
Pre-1978 buildings require asbestos and lead surveys before demolition. We coordinate licensed abatement contractors and never skip this step.
Permits, borough by borough
NYC DOB permits in every borough
Every borough has its own DOB office, each with different processing times and procedures. We file permits directly on every project — you never visit a DOB office or navigate the online portal. That is part of our service.
Bronx DOB
1932 Arthur Ave, Bronx, NY 10457
Our home office — an established working relationship. Most standard residential permits process within 2–3 weeks.
Manhattan DOB
280 Broadway, Manhattan
Higher volume, longer processing for full plan review. LPC approvals add a layer for designated buildings.
Brooklyn DOB
210 Joralemon St, Brooklyn
Processing similar to the Bronx. Brownstone renovations often require architect-stamped plans for structural work.
Queens DOB
120-55 Queens Blvd, Kew Gardens
Some of the most varied permit types in the city, given Queens’ mix of residential, commercial, and industrial zones.
Staten Island DOB
1 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island
Generally faster processing. Residential permits for single-family homes are often handled quickly.
Response times
How quickly can we start in your area?

Frequently asked questions about our service area
Our primary service area is all five NYC boroughs. We do take select projects in southern Westchester County — Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and nearby towns — particularly for commercial work or existing clients. Projects further out depend on scope and current availability. Call us and we will give you a straight answer.
We are based at 1292 Waring Ave in the Bronx, which puts us close to most Bronx neighborhoods. Our crew does not have a long commute to most Bronx job sites, which means earlier start times and more productive days on your project. That matters for your timeline.
Yes. From Riverdale and Woodlawn in the north to Mott Haven and Hunts Point in the south, we cover every Bronx neighborhood. We have worked in all of them since 2016.
Yes. We take commercial projects in Midtown — office fit-outs, retail spaces, restaurant work. For residential projects in Midtown or downtown, we evaluate on a case-by-case basis. Contact us with your project details and we will tell you directly whether we can take it.
We serve both boroughs, but the Bronx is where we have the most crew availability and fastest response times. For Brooklyn and Queens, we are selective — we take work we can staff properly. We will tell you if we cannot take your project right now rather than overcommit and underdeliver.
No. Our licenses, insurance, and working relationships are all built for New York City. We do not take projects in New Jersey or Long Island. If you are right at the border and want to discuss, call us — but our honest answer is usually no for out-of-state work.
For Bronx and Upper Manhattan projects, travel is not a cost factor. For outer boroughs, very large projects may include a small logistics component in the estimate — we are always transparent about that. There are no hidden travel fees. Your written proposal will break out all costs.
Call us at (718) 281-6000 and ask. We can tell you which streets or buildings we have worked on near you, and provide references from clients in your area if you want to speak with someone whose home or business we renovated nearby.
Yes. We file permits through the NYC DOB regardless of borough. Each borough office has different processing times and procedures — we know them all. You do not deal with the DOB yourself when you work with us.
Call (718) 281-6000 or email Sajjawalbaig@gmail.com. Tell us your borough, your address, what you need done, and your rough timeline. We schedule a site visit, assess the project in person, and provide a written proposal. We do not give firm quotes over the phone without seeing the space — that is how you avoid surprises mid-project.
